Holy Baptism

The goal of the sermon this week was direct our attention to the concrete acts of God in history. Though many today would direct us to nebuluous things like the inner spiritual life or ephemeral things like good works, the Christian is focussed on Christ and God's application of Christ's saving work to us, for example, in Holy Baptism.

Two Links of Notice

It's fascinating how information gets around in these days of digital communication.

A friend of mine pointed out to me how this article showed up in a Lutheran bulletin board. That people far-and-wide know about us is a little unnerving, yet, at the same time encouraging.

Also, check out this blog for probably one of the best rebuttals in cyberspace of James Cameron's The Lost Tomb of Jesus. More than one theologian has said that one of the best ways to fight the devil is to make fun of him.

The Apostles Creed

This Sunday we were blessed to have the choir from Saint John's come to assist us in worship. Many thanks to you, and you sounded great!

Our service this week focussed on the Apostles' Creed. In my sermon, it was my goal that the congregation increasingly see God as the giver of all good gifts. He has given us all things. However, in our sinfulness we push God away, convincing ourselves that God is not intimately involved in sustaining us. However, God is also the giver of salvation. By Christ's death, our forgiveness has been won, and this forgiveness applied to us individually by the Holy Spirit, through the Church.

How well did this come across? Do you have any questions about this?
